    Year of participation: 2025   I participated in Aquabike

    Food and drink after the race a shame. Some local delicasse instead of packed donuts and energy Bars would have been nice.
    Ceremony was at 8pm according to the schedule. In the briefing they changed it to 8:45pm but started at 8 anyway. I told them that some medal winners are still messing but they didn’t care.

    Fantastic event run in an amazing location. I scored oranisation down as in those temperatures running out of electrolyte drinks on the bike course shouldn’t happen

  5. Is that a World Championship ?

    Year of participation: 2025   I participated in Aquabike

    Prior to the race, two mails to two different emails addresses, no answer. The subject was about a difficulty an aquabiker can have, because he is competing in aquabike, and that subject is… walking ! No justification to my request at the registration area, just a “no” transmitted by a volunteer. What a shame !
    The volunteers are really kind and helpful and good at what they had to do.
    The race guide leaves a lot of questions and does not include important informations (water start for example).
    Tides can make a real difference in swim time.
    The transition is way too long when you cannot run properly. In the park, you could get thorns under your feet.
    The bike course is quite pleasant and very well secured. The passage in the University was not as bad as expected. Apart from the speed bumps (and there is a lot of them), the tarmac is good. Water and iso were missing in the third lap.
    The finish line of the aquabike was well placed.
    The after race experience was just a joke : no consistent food and some well known drinks were missing.

  11. A Great Venue But Wrong Time of Year

    Year of participation: 2025   I participated in Aquabike

    I competed here in 2023 and 2025. In both cases, I thought the organization and venue were great. The river swim is fine and has been wetsuit-legal in both races. The bike course is tough, and in 2025, the scorching heat made it even worse. In 2023, the event was held in September with more reasonable temperatures. In 2025, it was 32 °C at the race start, and I heard it peaked at 38 °C on the mountain.

    Of the 252 entries, 35, or 14%, had a DNF or NC. I expect it was mainly due to the heat. In my case, I picked up a chest cold two days before the race and toughed it out during the swim, but I could only complete 20K on the bike, which was my fault.

    As global warming continues, event such as this should be run in the cooler months. Full exersion in high heat is dangerous. I will not compete in events when the starting temperature is expected to be 30 °C or higher. The comment above about running out of water and ice on the final lap is deplorable.

    They say every athlete has a bad race. This was mine, but it was not the fault of the organizers.
