Fun race, good water course, bike course okay
This review was submitted for Ocala Triathlon 2024 - Sprint Aquabike
Year of participation: 2024 I participated in Aquabike
The race was fairly lightly attended, I was the only female sprint aquabiker. The swim course was great: The large pyramidal buoys were easy to see and the paddle board support seemed more than adequate. The water was clean and visibility was good. The “male” field was started a few minutes ahead of the “female” field, despite this I overtook many men in the swim. A heat-style start based on submitted times would have worked better and would be more inclusive for trans and nonbinary folks. The run to the transition zone was long. Transition was roomy and nicely set up. The bike course was fun, hilly, and somewhat scenic, however, the roads weren’t closed and traffic was heavy and impatient. Ocala isn’t exactly known for its cycling friendliness. The officers were generous with holding traffic at the intersections. The finish for aquabikers was in transition and we were slowed into the transition area, making the ending less than climactic.
Packets weren’t packed differently for aquabikers and duathletes.
