  1. Sommersault K-Town 2026

This review was submitted for K-Town Triathlon 2026 - Olympic Swim Cycle

Year of participation: 2026   I participated in Aquabike

This is always a well-organized race, and the venue is superb. Since Sommersault took over the race organization, they now have 9 different races on the day of the event (including a 5K and 10K race). With so many races, there is something for everyone. The downside is some races have few participants. The Sprint and Olympic Triathlons are by far the most popular. The Aquabike races, less so. The Olympic Aquabike only had 6 entrants. In 2025, the Aquabike Long-Course was a qualifying race for the 2026 World Championships, with 47 entrants. Being a world qualifying event for Triathlon Canada makes a big difference.

The swim course is in the Cataraqui River. There is no noticeable current. This year, we did the 750m loop twice to account for the Olympic distance. The water was a bit choppy too, which may have accounted for the loop race. The course is a bit weedy, and zebra mussels are present, so do not touch the bottom if you can avoid it.

The bike course is out and back on Highway 2. This is a nice course, but sadly, the pavement is poor in spots with potholes and cracks (no fault of the race organizers). The highway has needed repaving for many years. The course is not closed to traffic, so you need to be careful. The police were at all intersections, making it safe for cyclists. Generally, cars were respectful of the cyclists.

One thing I like about Sommersault is the diligent bike check-in and check-out for bike security. We don’t see this kind of security at other races.

I plan to return again next year. It’s always a fun race!
