  1. Complicated more than it needed to be...

This review was submitted for Grafman Middle Distance Triathlon 2022

Year of participation: 2022   I participated in Aquabike

Due to the bad weather the bike leg was reduced to just 1-lap (46km). The announcer said we could do just 1-lap of the swim and then go onto the bike leg. Triathlon competitors were also offered variations on their race so got a bit complicated when some opted out of 2nd lap swim, and some “triathletes” didn’t even bother with the run leg and tried to claim Aquabike prizes.
The race result was declared prior to the event as “gun time” and not “chip time” but many found themselves (including myself) down the result list due to triathletes choosing to retire after the bike leg, or even after 1 lap of the run, then opting to go on the Aquabike result lists.
I believe you can only be eligible for the race you entered – if you didn’t finish that then you are a “DNF”.

  2. Grafman Middle Distance Triathlon 2022 Race Review

This review was submitted for Grafman Middle Distance Triathlon 2022

Year of participation: 2022   I participated in Aquabike

    Rainfall was biblical.
Organisers decided to let athletes do 1 or 2 laps swim, only 1 lap bike and 1 or 2 laps run.
The results board was chaos. Some triathletes decided not to do the run after they completed the bike leg so asked to be in the Aquabike.
The organisers said the results would be based on “Gun Time” not chip time.
I did the full laps swim and the bike lap & came in over 18 minutes ahead of the next official Aquabike competitor, I crossed the finish line, I was awarded the winners’ medal & pictures were taken – on the published online results a few days later I was beaten by another competitor (?)
I’ve never witnessed such a complete organisational mess.

Like the Australian, but run to and from transition is tricky, especially as an Aquabiker
