Event Description
(provided by race organizer)Don't miss Outlaw's first ever Aquabike event on 19 May at Outlaw Half Nottingham 2024!
Outlaw Half Nottingham is an award winning event that sells out every year with a field of up to 2000 athletes at the National Water Sports Centre in Nottingham. The venue is perfect for Multisport with transition, parking and the start and finish all very close together. Note that bikes are to be racked on Saturday 18 May and the first starts will be at 6am on Sunday.
Swim 1.2 miles in the Regatta Lake followed by a 56 mile bike ride around the mostly flat Nottinghamshire countryside. There is just one small climb to tackle, which is followed by a long descent. Don't be fooled into thinking it's going to be easy, though - if the wind is up, this can be a challenging course!
Aquabike athletes will be seeded with the triathlon competitors - start times are determined by submitted swim times and athletes will start individually or in pairs in a time trial format. The clock stops when you cross the line into T2 and then you can walk, jog or run to the orange carpeted finish area in front of the grand stand to collect your medal and t-shirt and find out where you finished in your category. (Time from T2 to finish area is not part of your race time).
All competitors will receive a high quality medal and finisher's shirt as well as a post race meal and access to the recovery zone.

A great event and brilliantly organised. The coomunication up to during and after the event has been first rate.
I rated transition as low due to its length. It was very narrow with some bottlenecks. I’m not sure there is a solution and to be fair the marshalls did control the flow pretty well

Outlaw 2025 Aqua-Bike – Event Review
An exceptionally well-run and enjoyable event from start to finish.
Communication & Organisation:
The lead-up to the race was marked by excellent communication. Everything was clearly explained in advance, with timely updates and helpful guidance. On the day, the organisation was just as smooth – it was clear that a lot of thought and effort had gone into making the event run seamlessly.
Swim Course:
The swim course was incredibly well marked and easy to follow. Whether you’re a first-timer or a seasoned athlete, the clarity and layout made for a stress-free experience in the water.
Transition Area:
The transition area was well-managed and staffed by helpful and friendly marshals. It was on the longer side, with a few bottlenecks, but these were controlled effectively and didn’t detract from the overall experience.
Bike Course:
The redesigned road course deserves a lot of credit. Despite the challenges posed by some potholes, the team did a fantastic job marking them out clearly – a real testament to their dedication. It’s a shame the highways authority doesn’t take the same care in fixing them! Nevertheless, the course felt safe and well thought out.
Finish Line Experience:
Crossing the finish line was a brilliant experience. Everything about it was smooth and celebratory – exactly what you want at the end of a tough event. The support and atmosphere were fantastic.
Suggested Improvement:
One piece of feedback would be to expand podium recognition to include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places in all age categories, not just the main event. It would be a great way to acknowledge the effort of athletes across the board.
⸻
Overall:
A truly outstanding event – well organised, well marshalled, and thoroughly enjoyable. Huge credit to the entire Outlaw team for delivering such a professional and inspiring race day.
