The Ripon Triathlon which was planned to be held last weekend had to be cancelled earlier this year. At the 1066 Triathlon in Hastings the swim had to be cancelled due to bad weather conditions. While the Triathlon was converted into a Duathlon, the aquabike races eventually had to be cancelled. So what remained was a rather quiet weekend of racing. The aquabike races at the Stewartby Lake Triathlon were the only aquabike races in England this weekend. We had a big race in Austria at last year´s location of the European Championships though.
The Challenge Kaiserwinkl-Walchsee included an aquabike race in their middle distance triathlon for the third time. 64 athletes from 10 countries finished the race. Niklas LUDWIG from Germany was the fastest aquabiker, winning in 02:40:16 with a time gap of almost seven minutes. The race for 2nd place was much closer though. Andrii ONYSHCHENKO – the first athlete from the Ukraine in the Aquabike Rankings – was second with Austrian Roman FEYERSINGER 25 seconds behind in third.
Swissman Alexander SCHAWALDER came in in 5th place. Enough to push him into the Top 10 of the Men´s Aquabike Ranking Europe, where he´s also sitting in 5th place now.
Fastest woman of the day was Babette ANCERY from the Netherlands who took an equally comfortable win with more than 8 minutes to second placed Sandra WIRTH from Germany and her fellow countrywoman Lea BROSELGE following about three more minutes behind in third.
At the standard distance aquabike race at the Stewartby Lake Triathlon Mark YEOMAN won his fifth aquabike race this season. Chapeau! And it was a safe win once again. Second placed Andrew PRYKE was almost 13 minutes behind, with John TREDGETT following in third. Rachel CAMERON took the win in the women´s classification, finishing exactly one minute ahead of Wendy DAVIES and about four minutes ahead of Vikki DÆARCY who came in third.
Fastest of the three athletes finishing the Sprint Distance Aqubike was Graham MACKIE in a time of 00:46:42.
After a rather quiet aquabike racing weekend another big racing weekend in coming up. With races in Greece, Slovakia, France and Sweden we have races all over the European continent, but also a whole bunch of races again in England. With the Festival of Endurance at Hever Castle, The Fugitive and Swanage Triathlon Festival we have three events with middle and long distance races, alsongside a few more smaller races as well.
