Week 24 Race Reports

With no races on the continent last weekend it was a purely British aquabike racing weekend. We had two middle distance races at the A Day In The Lakes Triathlon and the Metric Aquabikus at the Centurion Triathlon Herts, where we also had a long distance race with the Imperial Aquabikus. The races which attracted the most aquabike athletes were a bit shorter though.

Week 24 Race Reports

Cholmondeley Castle hosted the latest event of the Castle Race Series. 20 aquabikers started the sprint distance race on Saturday. Darren BINKS was the fastest man, winning the race about a minute ahead of Ethan DARCY with Sascha KOEHLER coming in third. In the women´s race it was Sandra BUCKTON who took a clear win, about four minutes ahead of Lucy BURGESS and more than ten minutes ahead of Bella MORGAN.

As always in the Castle race series the standard distance race followed on Sunday with 19 aquabike athletes starting the race. Paul DONNELLY took an impressive win, with a time gap of almost 11 minutes. With this race win, Paul entered the Top20 in the Men´s Aquabike Ranking. Jack BAKER was the second athlete to cross the finishline, while the third man David FOULKES came in half a minute behind the winner of the women´s race. With more than 12 minutes Kathrine BANCROFT´s time gap to second placed Sarah MAWBEY-JEFFRIES was even bigger than in the men´s race. The race for the second spot on the podium was a bit closer though. It was Tamsyn WEDLAKE-JAMES who missed it by just seven seconds.

The Centurion Triathlon Herts was the next station at ActiveTrainingWorld´s Centurion race series. After a 2 km swim aquabike athletes had the choice between a 82 km bike leg at the Metric Aquabikus and a 135 bike course at the Imperial Aquabikus. Only two athletes tackled the longer race, where Nicky HAYES was the faster of them. Five athletes preferred the shorter bike ride, with Benjamin BROWN finishing first, ahead of the fastest women Louise KEDGE.

The middle distance aquabike race at the A Day In The Lakes Triathlon in northern England saw a few more athletes on the startline. Daniel WALMSLEY was the fastest of the 11 aquabike finishers with Andy PETFORD two minutes behind in second. Third aquabike athlete to cross the finishline was the fastest woman of the day. Jenny WILLKIE won the women´s race, with Kellyanne TOWNS coming in second about 10 minutes behind.

In the east of London the Dartford Bridge Triathlon offered aquabike races over the sprint and standard distance. In the sprint race it was Natalie SCOTT who came in first of the four finishers, 02:41 minutes ahead of the fastest man Jamie COVELL. In the purely female race over the standard distance Ruth JONES was the fastest of the five women, with Emma DODDS coming in second almost three minutes behind.
