Ottawa Early Bird Triathlon 2025 Race Review
This review was submitted for Ottawa Early Bird Triathlon 2025
Year of participation: 2025 I participated in Aquabike
The Early Bird is a race I enter every year. It’s early in the season, so seeing how your training is progressing is nice. The swim is in Carlton University’s 50 m pool. You swim 10 lengths to make up the 500m distance. Swimmers align themselves with their ability based on their 100m pace. Swimmers start every 5 seconds. Often, swimmers are unsure of their ability and may slow down, creating congestion in the lane. This is not ideal, but ‘it is what it is’. This is not a swim to set any records, however, it’s still fun, and you can talk to many athletes while waiting.
The bike course is closed and relatively flat. The 30k race has three loops with hairpin turns at each end. In 2025, it rained for the last half of the race, creating lots of water on the road. It was a new experience for me.
This is a well-organized race. The volunteers are super friendly and helpful, making it a pleasure to enter and race against friends and competitors. I recommend this race to anyone wishing to start a triathlon and get an early race in at the start of the season. See you next year!
