Mooloolaba Aquabike
This review was submitted for Mooloolaba Triathlon 2025
Year of participation: 2025 I participated in Aquabike
Sadly, the swim was cancelled due to poor water quality. There were storms during the previous days. Normally, the swim is calm as in a bay, usually no wetsuits – 26C.
The ride is predominately flat on fast roads. Just quite a few turns at start/end and a hill to get onto the motorway. Out and back course. Suitable for disc wheel – although ride can have sidewinds. This was first time Mooloolaba has had an Aquabike event (although over 30 years triathlon). They had arranged a separate swim start for all age groups, with all Aquabike competitors starting together. This did not happen as the swim was cancelled so staggered start of 2 competitors running 200m on beach, going off at 7 second intervals. This worked well as transition not to crowded. The finish was at the end of the bike/run transition…. only a 20m run to the timing mat as entered transition. Aquabike had a separate area in the transition zone. The organisers also erected a finish arch for the Aqua bike – nice touch for finish photos. The triathlon run finished at a different venue.
