For the longest time of the year last year´s World and European Champion Adam Lambrechts had a safe lead in the Aquabike Ranking Europe due to his outstanding performances in the two championship races. But after he wasn´t able to defend his title at this year´s World´s in Samorin, the top rankings got significantly closer.
So it was Peter Schott from Austria, who got into the top position two weeks ago. But he couldn´t stay in the place in the sun for very long. But it wasn´t Nathan Morgan who I mentioned last week as potential new #1 after the Europeans in Bilbao. At least not yet, since the European Championships are still two weeks away. Instead the new leader in the men´s ranking comes from Germany.
After his second win in the second aquabike race in Germany this season, it is now World Championship runner up
Jonas Hafemann
who is leading the men´s ranking. Chapeau and Congratulations!
After his super close miss of the (inofficial) overall title in Samorin, he is certainly a well deserved new leader.
So now the vice world champion is leading the men´s ranking as well as the women´s ranking. But we almost had another new #1 in the women´s ranking as well this week. After several strong performances this season Nicki Broad took her first win of the season at the Box End Challenge Distance Triathlon last weekend. With the 140 points she gained for that result, only 13 points are now missing to vice world champion Maria Powell.
We have quite a busy racing weekend coming up in England and I don´t know if any of the top ranked British girls is going to race in any of them. But chances are, that we also see another new #1 in the women´s ranks quite soon.
