What’s Your Performance Score?

You signed up for a race and check out your competitors. One of them has won a local race, but you have no idea how strong the competition at that race actually was. Is this a performance you could match or even beat?

Or you competed in a race and didn’t do so well, going by the results. But it actually feels like you improved your swim and bike performances compared to your last race. So you ask yourself whether your performance was actually better, or whether your feeling is wrong.

If any of those cases sounds familiar you will absolutely love our latest update!

Aquabike.World Performance Score

Over the past months we were working on an update which makes it possible to compare performances of different athletes over different events. We can now calculate benchmark times for most events (since this requires a minimum amount of data, we cannot calculate it for events with a very small number of competitors). Based on those benchmarks we calculate the Performance Score – for swim, bike and overall.

The swim benchmark is the time that one of the top swimmers in the field of elite triathletes would swim in that race. Same goes for the bike benchmark. The overall benchmark is a combination of both (and a fast transition). Since the fastest swimmers are usually not the fastest cyclists amongst the pro triathletes, the overall benchmark is a time that not even be best elite triathletes should be able to match if they would compete in this race.

The Performance Score is a score from 0 to 10 which gives you an idea of how strong an athlete – or a single performance – actually is. So that’s also a great way to compare your own performances in different races or over time. You get a score of 10,0 if you match (or beat) the benchmark time. As this happens occasionally in the swim when a strong swimmer competes in an aquabike race, you will barely ever see a 10,0 for a bike performance and probably never in the overall performance (as long as the times provided in the results are correct).

As registered user you can now see your current performance score in your athlete profile. As a premium member you can also see the PS of other athletes on their profile pages and also in the Aquabike.World Ranking.

And you can see the benchmark times and performance scores in the race results, which looks like this:

Results with Benchmark and Performance Score

You can also see the current Performance Score of other athletes in the rankings and in the athlete’s profile.

The Performance Score is also a great addition to our Competition Analysis. As a premium member you get a detailed analysis of your competition in your upcoming race, as long as the organizer provides a start list. The analysis does now not only contain the performance scores of each athlete, but also a predicted finish time. If you are competing in the upcoming world championships and want to know more about your competitors, you might should consider signing up for a premium membership 😉.

If you want to see how that looks like before you pay for it, you can check out this sample page which was created with the current start list for the CLASH Daytona, coming up in December.
