OK, this one comes a little late. But we are currently super busy working on a huge update of aquabike.world. So bear with us, it will pay off đ. Nevertheless we want to honor the performances of aquabike athletes over the last few weeks. While we had the European Championships in Bilbao (see our race report) there were two more middle distance races in Spain and the final races of the aquabike season on the British Island.
The day after the European´s the Infinitri Buriana Triathlon on the Spanish east coast included an  aquabike option for the first time. And there was a pretty close race in the men´s competition. Jose Ignacio TAPIAS MUNERA came out of the water 51 seconds behind Juan Carlos TOMĂS MARTĂNEZ-LOSA. With the fastest bike split of the day he passed the fastest swimmer who came in second with a time gap of only 28 seconds. Third placed Damian BEVILACQUA CHAIVEN came in three minutes behind the leader, taking his second podium of the season. As the only female of the 20 aquabike athletes in the race it was Cristina MIGUEL DIAZ taking the win in the women´s competition.
A week later 23 aquabike athletes started  at the 100% Half Platja d’Aro 2022 near Girona. Rubèn MASNOU RIBAS took the win after a 1,9 km swim and a quite demanding 90 km bike leg. 59 seconds later it was Diego PRECIADO BORREGUERO who came in second. Last year´s runner up Fabian BADIA VICENT completed the podium only 1:50 behind the winner. Fastest woman in the race was Paqui MIRANDA MEDINA, taking the win almost seven minutes ahead of Elisabet CREUS GARCIA, while Montserrat GUIXĂ PUENTE came in third.
Meanwhile in England we had the last big aquabike racing weekend at the end of September. The last station of the Castle Race Series was Hever Castle. Man of the weekend was Simon WOODCOCK, who took clear wins in the sprint distance race on Saturday as well as in the standard distance race on Sunday. In the sprint distance race William KEAR and Ethan DARCY completed the podium of the men´s race, while Wendy KANE was the faster of the only two women in the race.
With 37 athletes competing in the standard distance race on Sunday it was a worthy final of this years Castle Race series. Nathan CARTER came in second, four minutes after Simon WOODCOCK. Less then two minutes behind the winner of the women´s race Delyth WILLIAMS was the third aquabike athlete to cross the finishline, while Joe GARNER completed the men´s podium about four minutes later. Johanna CADE was second in the women´s competition, with Alice THOMAS came in third.
At the same weekend we also had the last race organized by Active Training World at the Great Yarmouth Triathlon. Paul TURNEY and Charles ROBERTS were the only finishers and therefore winners of the sprint and standard distance races respectively. At the Centurion Aquabikus it was Trevor BACK taking the win after a 1,5 km swim and a 84 km bike leg. Nick ESSER came in second about two minutes behind. Ian MURGATROYD was the third on the men´s podium. Simone GARLAND won the women´s race ahead of Emily BURTON and Jo JEWELL.
Meanwhile in East Leake Winston SOUTHWELL took his second win of the season at the East Leake End of Season Sprint Triathlon. With Ian CLARKE coming in 43 seconds behind and Richard SHARPE completing the podium only 24 seconds later it was a pretty close race.
A week later at the Erewash Triathlon the two podium finishers switched places. This time Richard SHARPE came in 31 seconds earlier than Ian CLARKE, taking the win in the men´s race. He wasn´t the first to cross the finishline though. The winner of the women´s race Sarah JANE MCDONNELL came in 42 seconds earlier. While Alistair WEIR completed the men´s podium, Jenna HULME was the runner up in the women´s race.
With only two more races in Spain in October, this was the last “multirace report” of the year. But of course there is another season highligth yet to come. The first Aquabike Standard Distance World Championships take place in Abu Dhabi in November. This is the first aquabike race outside Europre that we´re listing on our website. But it won´t be the last – watch this space đ
