In the last part of our 2023 Aquabike Season Review we take a look at the races with the smallest and biggest winning margins. Last year we saw some quite impressive performances with comfortable victories and also races with only a few seconds between first and second place. We show you the closest and clearest wins in aquabike races during the last racing season.
Closest Wins in Men´s Aquabike Races in 2023

In 19 races the time gap between winner and runner up was less than 10 seconds. In two races all podium finishers were seperated by less than four seconds.
At the St. Neots Standard Distance Triathlon 2023 winner Alexander DAWSON and runner up Mark TAYLOR had the same finishing time while Matthew HOGG had to settle for third only two seconds behind.
In the sprint aquabike at the Tarpon Springs Triathlon it was Martin WAGNER who finished first, three seconds ahead of David MORROW and Andrew STENBERG.
The closest podium in a middle distance aquabike race happened to be at last year´s Tauranga Half in New Zealand, where Michael GLYNN, Stephen SHELDRAKE and Mike CROWE were seperated by only 13 seconds.

The closest finish in a women´s aquabike race happened to be in the Olympic Distance Aquabike race of the Best In The West Triathlon Festival where Jennifer HENKEL had to settle for second place despite finishing in the same time as the winner Kristen ULLMAN.
The closest podium finish was in Australia at the Busselton Festival of Triathlon, where Michelle CARRANZA took the win only three seconds ahead of Jaz TOBIN, while Allison HASS came in third only 21 seconds behind the winner.

For this statistics we only counted races with at least 10 finishers. The clearest win of the 2023 aquabike racing season was taken by 2022 standard distance world championships runner up Bruce CAMPBELL at the Prescient Race2Hermanus in South Africa where he managed to put more than 45 minutes between himself and the other podium finishers.
The biggest winning margin in a standard distance race was at the Litchfield Hills Triathlon in Connecticut, where Tristan MARGOT took the win by more than 21 minutes.
And it was Luis LOPEZ who had the longest wait for the second placed athlete at a sprint aquabike race. At the sprint swim bike race of the Lakeside Triathlon in Ontario, Canada he took the win by more than 12 minutes.
